Hardcopy books and selected writingsI am constantly investigating books on performance tuning, entity-relationship database modeling, SQL and PL/SQL programming, database design issues and other related topics. My recommendations for snail-mail products will be presented on this page. You may also want to take a look at my eBooks, which are available for immediate download. I do my best to prevent you from spending money where it will do you no good.I will only recommend literature and links to other resources where I first have tested the content, and can verify that it justifies the price of the product. I recommend only products from respected and well trusted sources. I am an associate of Amazon.com and Barnes et Noble, and you may wish to visit their bookstores on a general basis:
This book by Thomas Kyte is highly recommendable. Mr. Kyte is Vice Precident of Oracle Core Technology group, and he has his own, higly skilled
Internet column.
I recommend this book because it covers many aspects of design, and very sound principles on how the total system should be
organized with regards to performance and tuning. After you have read it, you will be in a much better position to seek out
further information on niche topics.
A very comprehensive book on the PL/SQL Programming (Oracle) language by Steven Feuerstein, well known PL/SQL authority.
Can be used as a reference, in contradiction to most of the "Complete Reference" books, which are far more general,
and most often not worth the money. If you want to study and get insight into PL/SQL, get this one and read it before choosing any other.
By Richard Barker, this is a MUST in E-R Modeling ! A Bible for more than 15 years, it's still exellent ! It gives you both
theoretical database modeling principles and practical examples on numerous database design issues.
His passion seems to be airplanes, since his examples are (mostly) related to airline issues, but they will give you
general insight in database design using E-R modeling as well. Highly recommended ! (I keep my signed copy at hand at all times).
UPDATE: This book is out of stock at Amazon.com. Amazing! (If you sign up to my newsletter, you will get the opportunity to download my free eBook on E-R Modeling instead. If Mr. Barker's book becomes available again, the link to it will be restored.) |
