Installing the Oracle Database: A simple how-to

Based on all the questions I've got, installing the Oracle Database, or Oracle Lite, is not necessarily a straight-forward process. When my good friend Erwin Steneker from Customer Service Point was having trouble installing the Oracle Database, I decided to put up a new section about how to do it.

Hopefully, it will provide you with information to complete the process painlessly.

Feel free to make a set of printed copies of the different articles for your convenience.

So here it is:

  • By using the links and vital information in this article, you may obtain your own free trial Oracle download.
  • Before you begin the installation process, be sure to set up your Oracle environment properly, depending on which platform you use.
  • After having downloaded Oracle and prepared your environment, you are ready to perform your Oracle installation.
  • Configuring and tuning Oracle is necessary in order to make the installation run as expected.
  • I have yet to see a problem-free installation of Oracle... Here are some Oracle installation problems, and what you can do about them.
  • By default, security settings in Oracle are not particularly good. This article is a primer on the subject.
  • Here is a list of the most important generated users, their passwords, and what are your optins regarding Oracle access control.
